Bryan firm using crew of workers from QuadcoWorker on crew at local factory

A crew of workers from Quadco Rehabilitation Center is working at a Bryan company filling boxes of screws to be used by homeowners in their do-it-yourself projects. Quadco Executive Director Bruce Abell says a crew of 7 to 9 workers are filling boxes with fasteners at TRUFAST, LLC, that are bound for stores like Home Depot, Ace Hardware and Menard's.
Looking at the background of the company, Mr. Abell says that TRUFAST began in the basement of Duane Spangler's home 25 years ago when the excavator expanded into the roofing business and started packaging roofing screws to keep costs low.
Eventually TRUFAST became one of the main suppliers of roofing fasteners to contractors and builders in the country.
Earlier this year, a 183-year-old German company, Altenloh, Brinck and Company, purchased Mr. Spangler's interest in the business. The sale allowed the company, which manufactures the SPAX line of fasteners, a well-known name in Germany, to add the Bryan fasteners as a compliment to their line of fasteners for the do-it-yourself market.
They expanded the plant in Bryan, moved their distribution center from Maryland to the Bryan plant and plan to begin manufacturing their products in Bryan for the market in the United States. For now, the company is shipping fasteners in bulk from Germany to the Bryan location, typically 1,000-count packages, and the crew from Quadco is repackaging the fasteners into boxes with 8 to 50 pieces.
The boxes with screws that range in size from 1/2-inch to 3 1/2-inches are then sent to retail outlets for sale to customers working on fix-up projects around their homes..
